Hi Katherine!

I hope all is well. Thank you for sharing! Methane emissions from landfills are a critical issue that we cannot overlook in our efforts to combat climate change.

I’ll take a closer look at the report and make sure to share it with the Broward Solid Waste Authority. If I have any questions or need further information, I’ll be sure to reach out.

Best regards,

Nancy Metayer Bowen, MHS

Good morning!

Sharing a new report from Industrious Labs: The Hidden Cost of Landfills: How flawed landfill regulations perpetuate a methane crisiswhich details results from 29 EPA Inspection reports of landfills in eight states.  It reveals 711 methane exceedances over the legal threshold of 500 parts per million (ppm) across all the landfills. Worse, at nearly half (48%) of these sites, EPA inspectors found multiple exceedances where landfill operators had previously reported few or no exceedances.

Methane emissions from landfills are a major and often overlooked contributor to the climate crisis. Fortunately, there are proven, cost-effective solutions and technologies already available and being implemented by some landfill operators and leading states, and this summer, the EPA has a statutory deadline to review and consider updating federal regulations. Happy to discuss any of these solutions with you, or answer your questions!

Does ‘compostable’ plastic actually break down? Here’s what to know.

Making sure a product has been properly certified is one way to know if it will really break down in commercial composting operations.
