Looking ahead: It’s budget time for cities. There are many ways to learn how and where municipal tax dollars are being spent. Cities start preparing budgets in January. Proposed budgets are posted on city websites with descriptions of how taxes will be used to provide services including public safety, infrastructure, parks and recreation and initiatives that enhance quality-of-life, increase property values and improve community appearance. Public budget workshops are being held to educate taxpayers and receive public comment to complete approved budgets by October 1. Become informed.
