Looking ahead: Why should we care today about Census 2020? Because the Census Bureau is preparing how the 2020 count will be done and what questions will be asked. Census results impact our cities as it provides current population data. The data helps determine how more than $800 billion of federal funding will be distributed to state and local governments for infrastructure, services, highways, schools, and hospitals.
