May 5 — Looking Back: Last Monday, the Florida House passed HB 107, which makes texting while driving a primary offense. Currently, texting while driving is considered a secondary offense meaning that officers can’t pull a driver over purely for texting, but can issue a citation for texting if the driver is pulled over for another offense. Once HB 107 is signed into law, officers will be able to issue citations for texting alone. With protections to ensure the equality of enforcement in place, this is a step towards reducing distracted driving and making Florida’s roads safer.
