Looking ahead: For many reasons, it has become more difficult to attract and recruit qualified police officers. As first responders, they are responsible for our safety and deserve our support. It is a dangerous and physically and emotionally challenging job, but one that is critical. The shortage of officers has increased substantially because of the recent legislation requiring one School Resource Officer per school. The Broward League of Cities will be working throughout our cities to ensure that law enforcement is seen as an honorable and proud profession, recognizing that police officers jeopardize their own safety every day to protect our communities.
