Looking ahead: Many Broward County cities are making grade level reading a priority within their communities by supporting the Broward Reads campaign. Only 55 percent of Broward third graders are reading at the proficient level, which will ultimately impact their ability to graduate high school and move onto a successful career. Our cities are collaborating with the School Board of Broward County, Broward County, the Children’s Services Council and United Way to help primary school students prepare for their future by boosting literacy. The Mayors’ Chess Challenge is an ongoing program which helps students acquire skills to focus and think analytically. Read
