Looking Forward: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? Broward’s children, along with millions across the country, will be asked just that on Thursday, October 27th during “Jump Start’s Read for the Record Day.” This is a global movement to raise awareness for childhood literacy and build reading confidence. I along with other municipal elected officials though the coordinated efforts of the Children’s Services Council, Broward County Schools and others will be reading the book, Nigel and the Moon by Antwan Eady to over 40,000 students in 500 VPK centers, 225 schools and 1,500 classrooms.

Looking Back: Last week 411 cities around the State of Florida celebrated City Government Week which serves to recognize the vital work of the governmental entity that has the most direct impact upon its residents.  This year’s theme “My City: I’m part of it, I’m proud of it” guided municipalities civic engagement activities and raised awareness of the importance of local government. Being part of one of our 31 cities that make up our ONE Broward community, I am proud of how collectively we have embraced challenges to find solutions, effect change, and build a better future for generations to come.
