Looking Ahead: In 1976 when President Gerald Ford officially recognized February as Black History Month, he called upon the public to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.” This year’s theme is “Black Family: Representation, Identity and Diversity.” Across Broward County our cities, libraries, museums, and organizations are celebrating the achievements of African Americans with a host of exhibits and events. Take time to participate by learning and gaining a deeper understanding of the central role African American families have in our nation.
