Looking Ahead: As we celebrate Black History Month in February and honor our Black Americans, I’d like to share appreciation for my colleagues on the Lauderdale Lakes City Commission. We are five Black women that keep the ONE Broward mission primary as we work to strengthen our city for residents and business owners. Over the past 10 years, the City has celebrated Black History Month with a parade and lectures with noted African Americans including Juanita Abernathy, the wife of Rev Ralph Abernathy, who was second in command to Dr. Martin Luther King, and Black Historians and authors Dr. Asa Hillard III and Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu.
