FORT LAUDERDALE, FL. – (May 13, 2025) – The Broward League of Cities proudly awarded $2,500 scholarships to four exceptional high school seniors during its annual Scholarship Awards Dinner held on April 17, 2025. The evening honored the recipients of the Broward County League of Cities Scholarship for Government Studies.
The students were recognized for demonstrating exemplary leadership, academic excellence, and a deep commitment to public service, with plans to pursue careers that support and strengthen municipal government.
The 2025 scholarship recipients are:
- Nicole Hennessy, a Coconut Creek resident and senior at North Broward Preparatory School with a GPA of 3.87. Nicole has completed over 606 hours of community service and plans to major in criminology with a pre-law track.
- Alana Karam, a Parkland resident and senior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School with a 4.0 GPA. Alana has completed more than 332 hours of community service and plans to study public policy or political science.
- Alan Naranjo, a Miramar resident and senior at Everglades High School with a 4.0 GPA. Alan has logged over 253 hours of community service and will pursue a degree in economics with a minor in political science.
- Mariana Robayo, a Hallandale Beach resident and senior at Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School with a 3.93 GPA. With more than 335 hours of community service, Mariana plans to major in international relations with a focus on arts policy and cultural diplomacy.
Since its inception, the program has awarded more than $75,000 to students across Broward County who demonstrate leadership, civic responsibility, and a passion for public service.
“For over a decade, we’ve seen how empowering young leaders who are passionate about their communities can create lasting change,” said Mayor Felicia Brunson, President of the Broward League of Cities. “These students are a testament to the future of local government leadership, and we are honored to support them on their journey.”
