Looking ahead: The Broward League of Cities opposes SB-596 and HB-687 which threaten to overrule local government’s authority to control where telecom companies are allowed to locate their equipment. Each of our cities has clear ideas about how they want their communities to look. They currently have jurisdiction over the placement of communication facilities in public rights-of-way as well as the ability to negotiate rates. The proposed bills would place decision making with the state and remove the ability for local government to be responsive to their residents. Ask your legislators to keep local decisions in the hands of local elected officials. Read
