Broward County, FL (June 24, 2025) – The Broward League of Cities is proud to recognize 18 Broward County municipal officials, both elected and nonelected, that were honored with Home Rule Hero Awards from the Florida League of Cities (FLC). Each honoree was selected for their hard work and advocacy efforts during the 2025 Legislative Session.
“This year’s award recipients have truly gone above and beyond the call of duty to advocate for Home Rule for our 31 municipalities,” said Denise Horland, President of the Broward League of Cities. “Local voices making local choices is critical for our One Broward community, and I urge all Broward County stakeholders to join in the effort to promote Home Rule so we can make the best decisions possible for our communities.”
Home Rule is the ability for a city to address local problems with local solutions. Home Rule Hero Award recipients are local government officials who consistently responded to the Florida League’s request to reach out to members of the legislature and help give a local perspective on an issue.
“The dedication and effort of these local officials who tirelessly advocated for local decision-making was a difference-maker this legislative session,” said FLC Chief of Legislative Affairs Casey Cook. “On behalf of the League and its legislative team, we’re proud to recognize each of them and thank them for their service.”
