Looking Back: January 11 was National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery in which victims are forced into labor or commercial sex acts. Unfortunately, human trafficking is a global problem and very prevalent in our state and county. Florida ranks third highest in the country, and Broward County ranks second highest in the state, for human trafficking cases. I urge my fellow elected officials to make their residents aware of the indicators. As ONE Broward community, we can protect those most vulnerable by knowing the signs and speaking up. Remember, if you see something, say something.
