Looking ahead: According to Broward County’s chief medical examiner, opioids will kill more than 1,000 people here next year. The consequences of this abuse are devastating to individuals and their families. Our cities confront the opioid crisis daily, with many providing training and distribution of naloxone, an overdose recovery medicine, to first responders. The growing cost to fight opioid abuse will impact operating budgets as cities incur extraordinary expenses to respond to a growing number of calls.
