Sun Sentinel 100 February 1, 2014 – Of 200 child deaths reported in Broward County over the last five years, nearly half were a result of drowning. For infants less than one year, the most frequent cause of death was accidental suffocation from an unsafe sleep environment. Deaths of children under the age of 4 are often preventable. “#Saferby4”is a countywide prevention strategy that focuses on the role that municipalities and local government can play in keeping our children safe. Our cities are following the lead of the City of Sunrise by becoming a #Saferby4 communities, partnering with law enforcement, fire-rescue and social services agencies to tackle this tough issue.
