Sun Sentinel 100 April 26, 2015 – The financial challenges of the past few years have resulted in lessons learned in the way cities are managing their budgets. The Broward League of Cities recently held a workshop for elected officials to refresh and review some of those changes. Subjects discussed involved public financial statements, key areas to pay attention to and how to flag warning signs. Highlights included the value of operating within new financial reporting systems, balanced and conservative budgets, 5-year financial plans, and the importance of keeping a healthy rainy day fund balance, all lessons learned from the financial crisis that are becoming standard practice.
