Sun Sentinel 100 May 3, 2015 – Legislation creating regulations requiring the Florida Department of Children and Families to create a voluntary certification program for “recovery residences” is going to the Governor for his signature. Municipal elected officials long trying to balance the need for “sober homes” with the concerns of residents living near them hope this legislation will help. While not mandatory, it adds requirements for recovery residence employees to undergo background screening upon hire and publish a list of all certified residences on its website. It is a step forward to try to bring resolution to this thorny issue. Read article.
