There are a growing number of disingenuous efforts that are generating large numbers of technical violations of the public records law, often resulting in frivolous lawsuits against cities that cost millions of taxpayer dollars to defend. The Broward League of Cities respects the rights of citizens to request and receive public records, and that government has the responsibility of being accountable. In recognition of the escalating number of lawsuits, the League will continue its support of public records reform. We hope to eliminate money making schemes by individuals and organizations, limit harassing or unreasonable public records requests, and protect taxpayer dollars. Read article.
